Brooke Ence (born January 25, 1989) is an American CrossFit Games athlete and actress. She is currently ranked 9th in the world for CrossFit Games Women.
She graduated from the University of Utah with a BFA in Ballet Performance. Ence joined CrossFit in 2010 and began competing in 2012. Her first appearance at the CrossFit Games was in 2013, where she placed 11th; she then went on to place 12th in 2014 and 2nd at the 2015 California Regional, qualifying her for the 2015 CrossFit Games. With her second-place finish at the California Regional, Ence qualified for the 2016 CrossFit Games as well.
Ence also competed at the 2013 Reebok CrossFit Invitational as part of Team USA alongside Jason Khalipa and Kara Webb. They finished in third place overall.

Ence was born in Santaquin, Utah. She graduated from Payson High School in 2008 and moved to Orem to attend Utah Valley University. After one semester she transferred to Brigham Young University where she studied exercise science and nutrition.
At BYU, Ence began working out after discovering a passion for pole vaulting. After getting her personal trainer certification, she became a trainer at a local gym in Orem while attending college full-time. She eventually moved to Pleasant Grove, Utah where she began training at CrossFit Verve on a regular basis.
Competitive CrossFit Career
In 2012 Ence joined the competitive CrossFit scene, rising quickly with a number of regional victories including first place finishes in the 2013 NorCal Regionals and the 2014 Southern California Regionals alongside fellow Verve trainer Camille Leblanc-Bazinet.[4]
After qualifying for the 2014 Reebok CrossFit Games, Ence finished in second place behind Katrin Davidsdottir with a time of 10:48 on Event 3 “Muscle-Up Clean Ladder.” Ence won Event 4 “Big Bob” with a time of 13

During the summer of 2013, she moved to California to pursue a career in stunt work and acting. In 2014 she acted in a small part as a cheerleader for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 and then landed a bigger role playing “Leah” in San Andreas (2015).

Ence first discovered CrossFit in 2010, at age 19. She began competing in 2011.
In 2012, she qualified for the Games as part of the NorCal Regionals team, which placed 12th overall.
In 2013, she competed as an individual for the first time, placing eighth in the Northern California Regional.
She repeated her eighth-place finish at the 2014 Regional and qualified for the Games again in 2015 by taking third place at the Pacific Regional. She went on to finish eleventh at that year’s Games.
In 2016, Ence missed qualifying for the Games after taking fifth place at the Pacific Regional.
As a professional athlete, Brooke Ence is used to pushing her body to the limit. So when she first started CrossFit, she wasn’t intimidated by the intense workouts. But what she didn’t expect was how much it would help her mental game.
“I think my favorite thing about CrossFit is that you really have to be in the moment,” says Ence. “You have to be focused on what you’re doing at that time. You don’t have time to think about anything else; you’re just focusing on your breathing, or counting your reps or trying not to throw up.”
Her advice for those new to CrossFit: Try not to think too hard about everything you can’t do yet.
“I think it’s easy in any sport or any discipline where you feel like ‘Oh gosh, I can’t do this,’ or ‘I’m not as fast as this person,’ or whatever it is,” she says. “But I’ve always just tried to focus on what I’m doing and compare myself against my last workout and try to beat my last workout. And if I’m doing that every single day, then I’m improving.”
“I have a lot of thoughts and feelings about the word ‘athlete.’ It’s a word that I’ve used to describe myself since I was a kid, but lately it’s been a word that’s been used to describe me by others, and I don’t feel like it’s my word.”
Being an athlete takes commitment. It takes discipline. It takes sacrifice. It takes failure and it takes success. It takes doubting yourself and having others doubt you, but still being able to prove them wrong. It means constantly improving, constantly learning, and constantly growing.
“I like to think of myself as an artist,” Ence says. “I’m an artist that uses my body as my canvas and my workouts as my paintbrush.”
“CrossFit is art,” she says. “It’s creative. There are so many different ways to do things.”
